Lenses

We have a large variety of lens options for everyone

We have a large variety of lens options for everyone. There are a few key options to consider when choosing lenses for your needs.

Plastic, polycarbonate, high index and glass lenses are some of the options available for lens materials. Plastic lenses are lighter and have higher scratch resistances when compared to other lens materials. Most Sunglasses that are non-polarized are a tinted plastic lens. This allows a wider variety of colors for specialty tint treatments.

Polycarbonate lenses are light weight and impact resistant. These lenses are made from a softer material which can scratch easily with no scratch resistant treatments.

High Index lenses offer a thinner option for stronger powered prescriptions. These lenses are thinner than other lens materials; more comfortable and cosmetically desirable.

Glass lenses are heavier and more scratch resistant than other lens materials. The option for glass lenses is declining as most manufacturers have discontinued this material. It is strongly recommended to have glass lenses treated for impact.

Lens Materials

Types of Lenses

There are several different styles and types of lenses available at our office. Choosing a lens can be difficult as there are many different factors that can affect your vision. It is important to feel confident when choosing out lenses for your glasses. Our opticians and Optometrists will take the time educate and recommend a lens choice that is option for you.

Single Vision

Single vision lenses provide one field of vision correction for patients. These lenses help with farsightedness, nearsightedness, or astigmatisms. This style of lens is available in all materials.

Single Vision

Aspheric

Aspheric lenses are designed to lessen the appearance of magnification. Aspheric lenses are available in Single vision, high index lenses. This lens is thinner and designed for a compact look perfect for anyone who is conscious of the look of their glasses.

Aspheric

Bifocals

Bifocal lenses offer farsighted and nearsighted vision correction in one lens with a line that separates the distance and reading, this line is noticeable. The top portion of the lens is for distance as the bottom potion of the lens has a D shape which is for near vision.

Bifocals

Kryptoks

Kryptok lenses provide farsighted and nearsighted vision correction in one lens with a round segment that separates the distance and reading. Unlike the bifocal the kryptok lens has a round segment for the magnified reading portion. The round segment is less noticeable then the D shape reading segment of a bifocal.

Kryptoks

Trifocal

Trifocal lenses are similar to progressive lenses as they offer three fields of vision for distance, intermediate, and reading. These lenses will have noticeable lines much like the bifocal lens. Most trifocal wearers have been shifted to a progressive as lens manufacturers are designing less of this style lens.

Trifocal

Progressive

Progressive lenses are also known as multi-focal or progressive addition lens. This lens is a multi-purpose lens that is similar to a lined trifocal but different as the design as there are no lines separating the different fields of vision. Progressives can be made to fit in any prescription need such as computer and piano.

If you spend over 2 hours a day on a computer then a computer lens is a good option to consider. The lens is designed to specific intermediate and near vision needs. Some lenses allow some distance vision while others are set to the exact distance required for the task. Computer lenses are designed to lower eye strain with filters, tints and anti-reflective treatments.

Impact-resistant lenses are recommended for sport glasses as they are designed for chip and impact resistance and are less likely to crack. There are an assortment of designs, colors and coating for sport lenses.

Sunglasses

Ultraviolet radiation is entering earths atmosphere on a daily basis, eye damage has been linked to cataracts, macular degeneration, pingueulae, pterygia, and photokeratitis a temporary vision loss. It is important to wear sun protection when outdoors as the health of the eye will deteriorate without protection. Sunglasses offer UV ray protection as well as darken the intensity of the sun light. There are many types of Sun lens options available.

Polarized lenses help reduce glare, fatigue, and increase vision in low vision conditions. These lenses are available in an assortment of colors and treatments. The polarized lens has a filter built into the lens that blocks out the excess light reflecting from surfaces such as water, snow, sand, windows, vehicles, and buildings. We recommend polarized lenses for boaters, golfers, drivers and fishermen.

Tinted lenses range from light gradient color to full solid dark colors and come in an assortment of colors. Tinted lenses are made of a plastic lens and are dipped in a dye solution until the desired color is met. These lenses are recommended for piolets, filter sensitive people and occupational work needs.

Mirrored lenses are treated with a mirror treatment that reflects out light reducing glare. These lenses are available in a variety of colors that help to enhance vision.

Transition Lenses

Transition lenses darken with UV exposure and lighten when indoors. This lens has filter built into the lens, which reacts to the environment. Transition lenses are available in different lens materials and treatments. Some transition lenses are made with a polarization filter which will allow the lens to darken to sunglass darkness. There are a variety of color options available from our lens manufacturers. Our opticians will be happy to help educate and recommend a transition lens that will fit your needs and lifestyle.

Lens Treatment and Coatings

There are several treatments and coatings that are available for lenses. All lenses come with a standard scratch resistance. Lens treatments and coatings are applied to the lenses during the manufacturing and grinding process.

Scratch resistant lenses are treated with a scratch resistance coating. It is important to remember not all treatments and coatings are 100% scratch proof as the environment canaffect glasses. TD2 is a super scratch resistant treatment applied to lenses. It is recommended for people working in dusty, dirty, and windy environments. Anti-reflective treatments and coatings are also known as AR. This helps to reduce eye fatigue, glare and any additional reflections from the environment.

Lens Treatment and Coatings

Anti-reflective lenses are more cosmetically appealing as they lessen the staring effect and enhance vision. We recommend AR treatments for anyone who works on computers, under florescent lights, and for night time driving. Most AR lenses have hydrophobic and smudge resistance properties.

We use a variety of lens manufacturers for servicing our patient needs. Essilor and Shamir are our commonly used partners as they offer high quality lenses with a large option of lenses with different treatments and coatings to meet our patient’s needs.

Our lab has Nidek Lex 1000 edging equipment, allowing us the capabilities to provide same day services and 1 hour edging. We are happy to provide quick quality eyewear for our patient’s needs. We do carry a limited quantity of single vision plastic lenses for patients with lower prescription needing a basic lens.

Nidek Lex 1000 is built for quality lens edging with options available for edging such as polishing, grooving, and feather beveling the lenses edges. The edger uses a scanning barcode system allowing the lab technician the ability to edge orders one after the other. This series of edger presents a new standard of processing lenses with its easy to use options and precise edging technology. The Lex 1000 has high precision 3D lens tracing and chuck pressure stabilizer. Giving the lab technician the ability to see the lens from all angles to ensure that the lens bevel placement it precise for the best lens fit in the frame.

Our edger is connected through a network system to our automatic 3D tracer Nidek Ice 1000. This tracer precisely traces the frame and lenses to ensure accuracy when it automatically blocks the lenses for the edger. With the technology of the Ice 1000 tracer we are able to customize the dimensions of the lenses for rim-less frames.

Lab

Our office uses a lensometer to manually inspect and read all the prescription lenses we manufacture and order for our patients. This is a very crucial step in the manufacturing eyewear process. Prescriptions have required tolerances that all glasses must meet before being released to patients. Our Opticians and Optometrist play a key role in the inspection process for each and every pair of glasses leaving our office.

We offer free adjustments and cleanings on all eyewear needs with the ability to order in parts for select frame models and designs. Our lab has the ability to tint plastic lenses for sunglasses to the patients color request.

We are happy to provide high quality services with a friendly local feel for all our patient needs.

Our staff are all well versed in optics and are eager to serve everyone that walks into the office. We are here to serve all of your optical needs.
